(KLFY)-- Prom is a chance to make memories with friends and celebrate a big moment in high school, but pricey prom dresses can take away from the fun.

After seven years, New Day Community Outreach is still assisting junior and senior girls in finding the perfect prom dress all at no cost.

"Prom is a once in a lifetime thing for so many juniors and seniors in the area, so to take that one thing off the plate and financial burden off parents it's a really big deal,” Keshara Angelety, event director for the Butterfly Effect Project, said.

Juniors and seniors are just a few months away from preparing for prom and while choosing a prom date is important, finding the perfect prom dress takes precedence. Angelety believes finding the ideal dress shouldn't break the bank.

"It feels great to be able to help these girls,” Angelety said. “Without having the right dress to wear, girls will not attend their prom. They will miss out on the opportunity to have that experience that they will never get back.”

Here's how it works.

Junior and senior girls show up, shop, try on and say yes to the dress. All dresses, shoes and accessories are donated from local organizations and community members.

"They basically walk around with volunteers, they say yes to the dress,” Angelety said. “They take a picture and check it out. They are also able to shop for jewelry. They can have a good experience with shopping for the dress to lead up to that prom experience.”

Gently-used dresses, shoes and accessories donations are still being accepted.
